Compact #37 - Vase and Flowers Compact

Compact #37 - Vase and Flowers Compact - This is not technically a compact, well it is but it isn't. It is actually just a mirror but it is antique and it's cute so it made it into my collection. I got this in NY too, it looks quite 70's.

Cape Town Wooden Figures - Working Men

These wooden figures depicting traditional working roles aren't really anitque but they are collectible and sit proudly in the middle of my fire place. I bought these in Cape Town in 2007, I think they are an engineer, a soldier, a doctor, a tobacco company owner and a pimp although I am probably wrong ;) I am kidding I am not really sure what the last two are supposed to be protraying but they certainly look stupendous. To think that a group of South Africa's work full time carving and painting these little guys. I can think of worse jobs. I do have another figure but I drilled it to my fence to stop my dog getting out and to look decorative. It didn't stop my dog getting out but it does look cute on my fence.

Compact #35 - Gold Clock Compact

I suppose a compact with a clock would come in handy, I guess you would use it much like we use our mobile phones these days. Gold Clock Compact in good condition. I purchased this in New Yor in 2007 when I was there for my honeymoon. I only spent 6 days in NY which was not nearly enough time, I saw all the main highlights and did a little bit of shopping but I could have stayed for a good month I think to really see everything I wanted. One really cool thing about NY is the pop culture references that spring up around ever corner, so many movies, books, tv shows have been set in this fantstic city so I kind of felt like I had been there before. Heaps of choices when it came to compacts too which is a plus.

Compact #34 - Pink Mesh Pouch Compact

Pink guilloche enamel compact, the bottom is gold tone mesh. This is one of my fav's as it's really girly and pretty. I haven't seen too many other compacts like this one, I think this design of a soft mesh bottom may have been short lived.

Compact #33 - Trio-ette Triple compact

1940s Vintage House of Plate' Ivory or Cream Trio-ette (Trioette) Celluloid Triple Vanity Compact. It is a cool little compact as it holds loose face powder, rouge and lipstick, the lipstick tube inserts into the handle. These compacts come in several colours but I like the ivory ones as the others tend to look at bit cheap and tacky in my opinion. I purchased this Trioette on Ebay but I don't tend to buy compacts on Ebay much anymore. I find it much more rewarding finding my compacts in little antique shops when I travel overseas or at market stalls where you have to dive through the crap to find your pearl. I display my compact collection in a big wooden cabinet and I tend to look more fondly on the compacts that have a story behind them. Memories make better collections.
